Course Objectives for Concert Band Classes
This year-long course, designed for students with varying amounts of previous band experience with woodwind, brass, and/or percussion instruments, promotes the enjoyment and appreciation of music through performance of high-quality, wind and percussion literature from different times and places. Rehearsals focus on the development of critical listening/aural skills; rudimentary instrumental technique and skills, music literacy, and ensemble skills; and aesthetic musical awareness culminating in periodic public performances beyond the school day. Students in this class may need to obtain (e.g., borrow, rent, purchase) an instrument from an outside source.

- Understand fundamental and advanced musical concepts through instrumental performance.
- Perform major and minor scales relative to the student's experience level.
- Have an understanding of the important role that one plays in an ensemble through individual responsibilities leading to the success of the ensemble.
- Gain an appreciation for music of various periods and styles through performance and listening techniques through various internet mediums, such as Google Classroom, and YouTube.
- Continue to raise an individual performance level on each respective instrument which contributes to the overall performance level of the ensemble.
- Produce a good, quality tone on respective instruments through the use of tuners.
- perform with a good, balanced intonation.
- Perform all music with precise rhythmic accuracy and articulation/clarity through the use of breathing exercises, articulation practices, and practice performances.
- Focus on being/becoming a well-rounded musician through reflective prompts, and personal evaluations after practices and performances.

Google Classroom is often utilized during the course of this class for various assignments. to access, use your school-issued email address and log in to the course to start completing assignments.
